How To Measure The Horse Rugs Properly

By Cornelia White

It should be easier to take care of equestrian animals these days. A lot of people are doing this out of their hobby or because of their business. Whatever the reason behind it, one has to make sure that the appropriate horse rugs are given to the said animals. This is so that the person can give them extra protection, even if these animals have natural coats.

To those people who are concerned with their animals, they should make sure that the rug they chose are really fitted properly for their animal. The proper fitting of the rug is important to an animal's safety and comfort. Get the right measurement for the said rug. Here are several steps to get the measurement for this item.

First of all, the owner should prepare a soft measuring tape for this task. One will need to hold the said measuring tape correctly to get the measurement of the equestrian animal. When measuring, make sure that this animal is relaxed and standing naturally. The best time to get the measurement of this beast is when it is eating in the stall or in the cross-ties.

Stand right near the said animal's front shoulder. The starting position for the measuring tape of the said animal is at the center of the chest, right underneath the said animal's neck. Make sure to position the end of this measuring tape correctly so that one does not have to do the measurement all over again.

This will be the point for the first measurement. Extend the measuring tape to this animal's side until it is not able to extend any more. Once the person has finished with the measurement, one should then remember to take note of the measurement that one can get out of the said tape. This will be the first measurement.

Since the first measurement will most likely not be able to cover the entire length that one wants to measure, reposition the measuring tape to the point where the previous measurement ended. From here, one should then extend the measuring tape to make the measurements. Note the measurement of the tape after this point.

Once the person has two measurements already, what the person needs to do next is to add these two numbers. With the sum that one can get, it should be possible to obtain the proper sizing for the rug which one wants to purchase. For the sizes, they will be sold in measurements in two-inches increments.

The owner should also pay close attention to the warnings and tips that come with this. A good example is on the selection of the right size for the rug. If the rug is too big, it will slip off the animal's body and pose a risk when its legs get tangled in it. If it is ill-fitting, rubs and sores will appear.

It should also be helpful to have another person who can grasp the other end of this soft measuring tape, especially at the front of this animal. This is the best way to take accurate measurements for the horse rugs. There should be less trouble since the measuring tape is easier to flex compared to the other of its alternative.
